Black History Month

In 1925, when Carter G. Woodson planned the first observance of Black history, then called “Negro History Week,” he would not have guessed that the celebration would expand to an entire month and still be strong 100 years later. The theme for Black History Month 2026 is “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”

Women's History Month

Women’s History Month began as a local celebration of Women’s History Week in 1980 and has since grown into a nationwide recognition of the achievements, leadership, and lasting impact of women throughout history and in our communities today.
